Last updated: 19 September 2026

Imo Media Hub (“we”, “us”) is a news website based in Owerri, Imo State, Nigeria. This policy explains what personal information we collect when you use this website, why, how long we keep it, and the choices you have. It is written to meet the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 and to be understandable to readers anywhere, including readers in the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom.

Who is responsible for your information

The publisher of Imo Media Hub is the data controller. You can reach us at imomediahub@gmail.com or by post at Owerri, Imo State, Nigeria.

What we collect, and why

1. When you send us a message

The contact form asks for your name, email address, an optional subject and your message. We also record the time of the message and your IP address, which helps us block spam and abuse. We use this only to read and reply to your message and to protect the website. We do not use it for marketing and we do not add you to any mailing list.

2. Cookies

The website sets one small “session” cookie (named IMHSESS) on some pages, such as article pages and the contact form. It holds a random identifier only. It lets us (a) protect forms against forgery, and (b) avoid counting the same reader’s view of an article more than once. It expires when you close your browser. We do not use analytics or tracking cookies of our own.

Adverts from Google AdSense. This website shows adverts supplied by Google AdSense. Google’s AdSense code is present on every page. Before any advert is requested we ask for your permission; if you choose “No, thanks”, no adverts are requested from Google and no advertising cookies are set. You can change your mind at any time with the “Ad choices” link at the bottom of the page. If you allow it, Google and its advertising partners may set cookies or similar identifiers, receive your IP address and technical details of your visit, and use them to show and measure adverts, including adverts based on your interests. Learn how Google uses data from sites that use its services at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites, and manage personalised advertising at adssettings.google.com. We do not control these cookies. You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings.

3. Server records

Like every website, our hosting provider’s servers automatically record technical details of each request (IP address, date and time, page requested, browser type). These records are used for security and to keep the site running. They are kept by the hosting provider under its own retention rules.

4. Visit statistics

To learn which stories readers value, we count page views on our own server. For each page view we store the date and time, the page, whether the reader arrived from a search engine, social media or another website (and which site), and whether the device is a phone or a computer. We do not store your IP address, we set no cookie, and we do not build a profile of you: the only identifier is a one-way code made from the date, your IP address and your browser type, which changes every day and cannot be turned back into any of them. This lets us count readers without following them from one day to the next. These records are deleted after 400 days. Pages viewed while signed in as staff are not counted.

5. Staff accounts

Editors who sign in to the administration area have an account (username, display name and a securely hashed password). Failed sign-in attempts are recorded by IP address for security. Authors may choose to publish a job title, a short biography and a photo; these are then shown publicly under their articles and on their author page, and can be removed by the author at any time.

What we do not do

We do not sell personal information, and we do not knowingly collect information from children.

How long we keep information

  • Contact messages: deleted automatically after 12 months, or sooner if you ask us to delete them.
  • Failed sign-in records: deleted automatically after 2 days.
  • Visit statistics: deleted automatically after 400 days.
  • Session cookie: removed when you close your browser.
  • Server records: according to our hosting provider’s policy.

Who we share it with

We share information only with the hosting provider that stores this website (acting on our instructions), and with authorities where the law requires it. Our hosting provider may store data on servers outside Nigeria; where that happens we rely on the provider’s contractual and security safeguards.

Some articles link to other websites, and share buttons open Facebook, X (Twitter), WhatsApp or your email program. Those services have their own privacy policies; nothing is sent to them unless you click.

Your rights

You may ask us to: tell you what personal information we hold about you; correct it; delete it; restrict or stop our use of it; or give you a copy of it. To use any of these rights, email imomediahub@gmail.com. We will reply within 30 days. If you are not satisfied, you may complain to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (ndpc.gov.ng) or, if you live in the EEA or UK, to your local data protection authority.

Security

Passwords are stored only as salted hashes, forms are protected against forgery, access to the administration area is limited and rate-limited, and the website is served over HTTPS wherever the hosting supports it. No system is perfectly secure; if we ever discover a breach that puts your rights at risk we will notify you and the regulator as the law requires.

Changes to this policy

If we change how we handle personal information, we will update this page and the date at the top.
