BREAKING: Imo APC Set To Conduct Primaries Tomorrow For 14th November Local Government Election

The All Progressives Congress (APC), Imo State Chapter, is set to conduct its primaries tomorrow, Monday, 9th November 2026, to pick its candidates for the 14th November 2026 Local Government Council Elections.

This is coming after a very tight timetable from the Imo State Independent Electoral Commission (ISIEC).

WHAT IS AT STAKE:

The election on Saturday, 14th November 2026, will produce:
- 27 Local Government Council Chairmen
- 305 Ward Councillors

Across all 27 LGAs of Imo State - Aboh-Mbaise, Ahiazu-Mbaise, Ezinihitte-Mbaise, Ikeduru, Mbaitoli, Ngor-Okpala, Obowo, Ihitte-Uboma, Owerri Municipal, Owerri North, Owerri West, Isu, Njaba, Nkwerre, Nwangele, Oguta, Ohaji-Egbema, Oru East, Oru West, Orlu, Orsu, Ideato North, Ideato South, Okigwe, Onuimo, Isiala-Mbano, and Ehime-Mbano.

HOW WE GOT HERE - TWO POSTPONEMENTS:

1. First date: 26th September 2026 - postponed after some IPAC members went to court to seek extension of timetable.
2. Second date: 7th November 2026 - postponed on 31st October at Rockview Hotels stakeholders meeting, after parties said date was unrealistic.
3. New date: 14th November 2026 - announced by ISIEC Chairman, Chief Charles Ejiogu, JP, on 2nd/3rd November after consultations with IPAC and registered political parties.

ISIEC has directed all registered parties to collect the official timetable and guidelines at its headquarters, No. 21 Orlu Road, Owerri, and said it is ready to observe parties' primaries in line with Electoral Act 2022.

APC PREPARATION SO FAR:

  • Sale of Expression of Interest / Nomination Forms: Tuesday 3rd Nov to Wednesday 4th Nov 2026
  • Venue for forms: APC State Secretariat, No. 47 Okigwe Road, Owerri
  • Cost: ₦10 Million for Chairmanship aspirants, ₦1 Million for Councillorship aspirants
  • APC State Chairman: Chief Austin Onyedebelu - confirmed sale ended 4th Nov, assured party of landslide victory on 14th Nov

In 2024, Governor Hope Uzodimma said APC would prioritise consensus - direct primaries, indirect primaries, and consensus are the three methods recognised by APC Constitution - to preserve unity and respect zoning.

Political commentators have warned aspirants: Before you buy form or enter primary, check if zoning / rotational arrangement in your LGA favours your bloc, clan or community - especially in Owerri West, Ihitte-Uboma, Owerri North, Onuimo and others where zoning is firmly established. Don't waste ₦10m / ₦1m if zoning does not favour you.

WHAT TO EXPECT TOMORROW - MONDAY 9TH NOV:

Aspirants are expected to report to their respective LGA / Ward primary venues as directed by the APC State Working Committee.

Imo Media Hub is monitoring the situation. As at time of filing this report, APC has not yet published the full official primary timetable with time and venues for all 27 LGAs in a public statement.

Aspirants should:
1. Confirm your primary venue and time with your LGA APC Chairman / State Organising Secretary TODAY - do not rely on WhatsApp rumour.
2. Go with your form receipt, membership card, and ID.
3. Avoid violence. LG election is not war. One primary, one winner - losers should remain in party.

WHAT OTHER PARTIES ARE DOING:

Other registered parties - PDP, APGA, Labour Party, Accord, and others - are also expected to conduct their own primaries / submit candidates within ISIEC's tight window.

APGA and 4 of its Imo officials already have a suit before Imo State High Court challenging aspects of the process, including notice of election.

With only 5 days between primaries and election (9th Nov to 14th Nov), parties have a very tight window to conduct primaries, submit candidates, campaign, and mobilise.

WHAT VOTERS SHOULD KNOW:

  • You vote for Chairman of YOUR LGA and Councillor of YOUR Ward only.
  • LG election affects your daily life more than presidential election - roads, markets, primary health centres, primary schools, waste, local security are LG matters.
  • Do NOT sell your vote for ₦2,000. Your LGA chairman will control your LGA allocation for 3 years.

We will bring you LIVE updates from primaries tomorrow - winners list, LGA by LGA, as results emerge.

Are you an aspirant or delegate? Drop your LGA in comments and tell us - consensus or primary? Who do you think will win your LGA?
