2027 is heating up: APC now claims 31 governors after massive defections, Court nullifies Atiku's ADC candidacy on 5 Nov, opposition cries one-party state, INEC battles PVC and voter register wahala. But do governors own voters? 2023 proved they don't. Read both sides.
2027 Election Wahala: Tinubu Has 31 Governors, Court Sacks Atiku, Opposition Cries One-Party State - Who Really Owns The Votes?
Nigeria's 2027 election is no longer far. It is HERE. And the political ground is shaking every day.
In just one week, we have seen: mass defections, a court sacking a presidential candidate, opposition crying one-party state, and a big question nobody can answer:
If a governor defects, do his voters follow him?
Let's break it down - BOTH SIDES, no sentiment.
1. THE BIG DEFECTION WAVE - APC NOW CLAIMS 31 GOVERNORS
Over the last 18 months, a wave of governors have left PDP, NNPP and other parties to join the ruling APC:
- Umo Eno (Akwa Ibom) - June 2025
- Sheriff Oborevwori (Delta) - led PDP structure to APC
- Peter Mbah (Enugu) - joined APC
- Siminalayi Fubara (Rivers) - Dec 2025, PDP to APC
- Douye Diri (Bayelsa) - Nov 2025
- Agbu Kefas (Taraba) - Feb 2026
- Dauda Lawal (Zamfara) - March 2026
- Abba Kabir Yusuf (Kano) - from NNPP in 2026
- Ahmadu Fintiri (Adamawa) - PDP to APC
By March 2026, APC was claiming control of 31 of Nigeria's 36 states. Some reports even claim 34 governors are in Tinubu's re-election camp, including Governors Soludo (Anambra, APGA) and Adeleke (Osun) who have pledged support for the President without joining APC.
APC supporters say: This is a Government of National Unity. Everybody wants to work with Tinubu for development.
Opposition supporters say: This is not unity, this is fear. Governors are defecting to protect themselves, to secure second term, to control EFCC wahala, to pick successors.
Which one is true? Only the governors know their real reason.
2. BREAKING: COURT SACKS ATIKU - ADC REJECTS RULING
On Thursday, 5 November 2026, Federal High Court in Abuja, Justice Peter Lifu, nullified the David Mark-led leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and invalidated all decisions of its caretaker committee - including the nomination of Atiku Abubakar as ADC presidential candidate for 16 January 2027 election.
The court ruled in favour of former ADC Deputy Chairman (North-East), Nafiu Bala Gombe, who challenged the Mark-led leadership as unlawful.
ADC has REJECTED the ruling and announced plans to appeal. Atiku has said: "I am still in the race. I will be on the ballot. Let's meet at the polls in a free, fair and credible contest."
Atiku also accused Tinubu's government of using court processes and political pressure to weaken opposition and push Nigeria towards a one-party state. He also alleged attempts to compromise the voters' register through AI-generated photographs and false names.
Tinubu's camp and APC supporters have dismissed the claim, saying Atiku should go and prove his case in court, not on social media. FCT Minister Nyesom Wike also attacked Atiku, saying he sold Nigeria's assets as Vice President and will sell Nigeria if elected.
This case is now the biggest test for INEC and the Court of Appeal: Will Atiku be on the ballot on 16 January?
3. THE OTHER CANDIDATES STILL IN THE RACE
INEC's final list has 18 presidential candidates, including:
- President Bola Tinubu - APC
- Atiku Abubakar - ADC (under court challenge)
- Peter Obi - Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC)
- Seyi Makinde - APM (Oyo Governor)
- Others from PDP, PRP and smaller parties
This is NOT a two-man race. Don't let anybody deceive you.
4. THE BIG QUESTION: DO GOVERNORS OWN VOTERS?
This is where the traffic is, Boss. Read this well.
In 2023, APC controlled 21 states, PDP controlled 14, APGA controlled Anambra. Yet APC did NOT win all its states. Labour Party won Lagos where APC governor was in charge. PDP lost many states it controlled.
Peter Obi said it clearly after Mbah's defection: "The people will decide where to go, not governors or senators; no party will capture or win any state just because it has a governor."
APC supporters reply: "2027 is different. 31 governors + federal might + structure = victory."
Opposition replies: "Governors cannot force market women, students, okada riders, unemployed youths to vote against their stomach. Hunger does not defect."
Who is right? History says: Governors help with structure, money, and logistics. But voters decide with their stomach, their anger, and their hope.
5. OTHER WAHALA THAT WILL DECIDE 2027
- PVC Wahala: INEC is struggling to distribute 14 million PVCs to voters. If you don't have PVC, you cannot vote. Go and collect your PVC NOW.
- Voter Register Wahala: INEC is investigating AI-generated photos and fictitious names in preliminary register. Situation Room says INEC must be independent and transparent.
- State Police: 28 State Assemblies have approved state police bill. National Assembly is set to transmit to Tinubu for assent. This will change security politics.
- Insecurity: 519 security incidents and 27 election-related deaths already reported. Attacks on opposition convoys in Calabar, Kebbi, Ado-Ekiti and APC convoy in Lafia have been reported. Situation Room has called for fair competition and protection of citizens' rights.
- Economy: Tinubu is seeking fresh $20.52bn + €1.05bn loan for 2026-2027. Atiku and Obi are attacking him on fuel subsidy removal, naira fall, food prices, factory closures. Tinubu's camp says reforms are working - NELFUND has disbursed ₦372.62 billion to 319 institutions, allocations to states increased.
6. WHAT SHOULD ORDINARY NIGERIANS DO?
Don't just shout APC, ADC, Obi, Atiku on WhatsApp and go and sleep.
1. Collect your PVC. Without PVC, your opinion is noise.
2. Check your name on INEC voter register.
3. Ask candidates: What is your plan for food price, jobs, security, light - not just party name?
4. Don't sell your vote. ₦5,000 today = 4 years of suffering.
5. Don't fight your brother because of politician. Politicians will defect tomorrow and eat together. You will still be neighbours.
2027 will NOT be decided by how many governors defected. It will be decided by how many ordinary Nigerians show up to vote on 16 January 2027.
So tell us in comments - HONESTLY:
Do you think governors can deliver their states for Tinubu in 2027, or will the people vote their stomach?
Drop your state + who you think will win your state. Let's argue - but no insult, no tribal war.
