JAMB has warned universities, polytechnics and colleges against issuing admission letters to candidates, says only JAMB admission letter via CAPS will be accepted for NYSC mobilization.
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has issued a strong warning to universities and other tertiary institutions across Nigeria to stop issuing admission letters to candidates.
According to the Board, only JAMB is legally empowered to issue official admission letters.
The JAMB Registrar, Prof. Segun Aina, gave the warning on Thursday, October 15, 2026, when he received a delegation from Veritas University, Bwari, Abuja, during a courtesy visit to his office in Abuja.
Prof. Aina said many candidates are being misled by admission letters issued directly by universities, believing such letters are genuine even when their admission was not properly processed.
“The irony of the situation is that once candidates see a document as emanating from an institution purporting to offer them admission, they believe that it is real,” the Registrar said.
He described the practice by some institutions as ignoble and urged them to desist immediately.
The Registrar reminded institutions that the Federal Ministry of Education has directed that all admissions must be processed through the Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS). Any admission conducted outside CAPS is illegal and invalid.
He stressed that no university, polytechnic or college of education is permitted to substitute its own admission letter for the official JAMB admission letter issued after a candidate has accepted his admission on CAPS.
Prof. Aina added that only admissions recognized through CAPS will be accepted for official purposes, including mobilization for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).
He advised candidates to always accept their admission on CAPS and print their official JAMB admission letter via the JAMB e-facility portal to avoid future problems.
