THE BITTER PRICE OF ANTI-PARTY: WHEN YOU DIG A PIT FOR YOUR OWN PARTY, YOU FALL INSIDE IT
*By Comr. Alozie, James-patrick | http://imomediahub.org*
There is a new sickness in Nigerian politics that is more dangerous than opposition.
It is called *ANTI-PARTY.*
It is when a man wears the uniform of APC in the morning, but at night, he is holding meetings to make APC fail.
It is when a woman collects a PDP membership card, but her heart, her money, and her mouth are working for Labour Party.
It is when you are in ADC, but you are secretly praying and working for your own candidate to lose election.
Let me tell you the truth: *Anti-party is political suicide.*
1. YOU ARE DESTROYING THE HOUSE YOU LIVE IN
A political party is like a house. You joined the party because you needed shelter. The party gave you a platform, gave you a name, gave you people to call your own.
If you set fire to that house because you are angry that you did not get ticket, where will you sleep tomorrow?
Many people who worked against their party in 2019 and 2023 are homeless today. The opposition they helped did not accept them. The party they betrayed rejected them. They are now political orphans.
2. POLITICS IS A ROTATING CIRCLE - YOUR OWN DAY IS COMING
This is the part our politicians forget.
Today you are a party leader, a stakeholder, an LGA chairman, a ward chairman. You have the power to work against a small boy who is contesting for Councilor or House of Assembly.
You will laugh. You will say "Let him fail."
But remember: *Power is not permanent.*
In the next 2 years, 4 years, you too will contest. You will need the same party. You will need the same small boy you are fighting today to be your delegate, to be your canvasser, to hold your poster.
What you sow today, you will reap tomorrow.
If you sow betrayal, you will reap betrayal.
If you sow loyalty, you will reap loyalty.
There is a law of karma in politics that never fails: *The hand you bite today will be the hand you need tomorrow.*
3. YOU ARE TEACHING THE YOUNGER ONES TO BETRAY YOU
When you, as a leader, openly work against your own party's candidate, you are not just fighting that candidate.
You are teaching every youth in your ward that loyalty is useless, that betrayal is normal.
Tomorrow, when you become a candidate, those same youths will do to you exactly what you taught them. They will collect your money and work for your opponent. And you will have no mouth to complain, because you created the culture.
4. THE OPPOSITION DOES NOT TRUST A BETRAYER
You think the other party will love you because you betrayed your party for them? You are deceiving yourself.
In Nigerian politics, no one trusts a man who betrays his own house. If you can betray APC for APP today, you can betray APP for APC tomorrow.
The opposition will use you and dump you after election. They will never give you their secret. They will never make you their leader. Because they know: A man who is not loyal to his party can never be loyal to anyone.
MY ADVICE TO ALL PARTY FAITHFULS ACROSS ALL PARTIES:
*1. If you have a problem with your party's candidate, settle it inside.* Call a meeting. Shout. Argue. But after the meeting, come out as one. Don't go to the press to wash your dirty linen.
*2. If you lost the primary, be patient.* Your loyalty today is your campaign material tomorrow. People will say "He stayed when it was hard, let us reward him."
*3. Remember that party is bigger than any candidate.* Candidates come and go. The party remains. Protect the party first.
*4. Don't be used by outsiders to destroy your own house.* Any outsider who tells you to fight your own party does not love you. He wants your house to scatter so he can take over your land.
In conclusion, let every politician ask himself: If everyone behaved like me, would this party still exist?
If the answer is NO, then you are the problem.
Be loyal. Be patient. Your own day is coming. And on that day, you will need the same loyalty you are destroying today.
*A word is enough for the wise.*
