Every eye service has an expiration date. In politics, power is temporary but character is permanent. A deep truth about betrayal, women pulling down women, and why integrity will outlive any political appointment.
*EVERY EYE SERVICE HAS AN EXPIRATION DATE: THE BITTER TRUTH ABOUT POWER, BETRAYAL AND LIFE AFTER POLITICS*
In politics, loyalty is often tested, and character is often revealed. One undeniable truth is this: _Every eye service has an expiration date._
We have heard many women cry loudly about marginalization, exclusion and gender inequality in politics. And truly, marginalization of women is real. The system has not been fair to women. But we must also have an honest conversation within the fold.
While some women are genuinely fighting for inclusion, equity and a chance to serve, others have turned the struggle into a weapon of personal envy. They will stand in public to shout "women support women," but behind closed doors, they are busy pulling down their fellow women.
*THE INSECURITY IN THE MIDST OF SISTERS*
Sadly, some women feel threatened at the mere sight of another woman shining in the same group.
Instead of seeing a sister, they see a competitor. Instead of seeing strength in unity, they see a threat to their personal relevance. When a brilliant, confident and charismatic woman enters the group, they become uncomfortable. They start to whisper, they start to isolate her, they start to poison the minds of leaders against her.
They forget that a star does not stop another star from shining. The sky is wide enough for all of us to shine.
This insecurity is the root of many betrayals. A woman who is not secure in herself will always feel threatened by another woman's beauty, brilliance, eloquence, or acceptance by the people. And from that insecurity comes gossip, blackmail, lies, and desperate attempts to spoil the hard work of another woman just to take over her position by force.
Some believe that power is not earned through capacity and consistency, but through sleeping around, through flattery, and through destructive eye service to those in power.
*THE TRUTH ABOUT EYE SERVICE*
Eye service can give you a quick appointment, a temporary spotlight, and access to a few corridors of power. But it cannot give you respect, it cannot give you legacy, and it cannot sustain you.
Those you are serving today know you are only performing. They watch you. They know you have no base, no character, no loyalty. They will use you for as long as you are useful for their game, and dump you when the game changes. That is the expiration date.
A woman who climbs by destroying another woman has already failed, because the same ladder she used to climb is what others will use to pull her down.
*THE CONSEQUENCES*
*1. You Lose Credibility:* People may clap for you in public, but in private, they label you as unreliable and dangerous.
*2. You Create Enemies Instead of Sisters:* Politics is transient. The woman you are fighting today may be the helper you need tomorrow.
*3. You Reduce Your Own Value:* When you sell yourself cheaply for a position - whether through betrayal or through your body - you tell the political world that your brain has no value.
*4. You Destroy the Collective Struggle:* When women fight women, men watch and laugh, and use it as an excuse to say "women are not united, we cannot trust them with power."
*LIFE AFTER POLITICS - THE PART WE FORGET*
Political office is temporary. Appointment is temporary. Power is temporary.
There is life after politics. When the sirens are gone, when the security men are gone, when the title of "Honourable" is no longer attached to your name, what will be left?
What will be left is your CHARACTER. Your NAME. The relationships you built or destroyed. The people you lifted or pulled down.
Many who once abused power to humiliate others are today lonely, without friends, without respect, and moving from one political door to another begging for relevance. Because they invested only in positions, not in people. They invested in eye service, not in value.
Real power is not in the position you occupy. Real power is in the capacity you build, the lives you touch, and the integrity that speaks for you even when you are not in the room.
*A WORD TO WISE WOMEN*
Dear woman in politics, build capacity. Build content. Build character.
Support your fellow woman genuinely. If she is given an opportunity you wanted, congratulate her and wait for yours. Your time will come. Don't sleep your way to power that your brain cannot sustain. Don't betray your sister to impress a system that will still discard you.
Let us compete with ideas, not with envy. Let us rise by lifting others.
Because at the end of the day, position will expire, but your name will remain.
*Eye service will expire. But a good name and true service will endure.*
