Imo LG election holds Nov 14. APC members urged to support aspirants with capacity, grassroots relationship and integrity. Group lists 10 qualities APC should consider before choosing chairmanship and councillorship candidates. Read full appeal on Imo Media Hub.
The Imo State Local Government election has been scheduled for 14th November, 2026, and stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have been urged to support aspirants with proven capacity, grassroots acceptability and integrity.
The call was made in a strategic appeal issued by Comr. Alozie James-Patrick and monitored by Imo Media Hub, ahead of the APC primaries for Chairmanship and Ward Councillorship positions.
According to the statement, the forthcoming LGA poll is a critical test for the ruling APC in Imo State and the party must get its candidate selection right to remain unbeatable at the grassroots.
10 Qualities APC Members Should Look For In Aspirants
The group passionately appealed to APC members exercising their prerogative to consider the following in the overall interest of the party and the state:
1. Elect People With Strong Grassroots Relationship
The group said the party should appoint people who relate well with the grassroots, who know their ward executives by name, who attend funerals, weddings and village meetings, and who are accessible to women, youths and elders. Not leaders who reside permanently in Owerri and only appear during elections.
2. Avoid Divisive Figures Hated At Home
We should not appoint divisive figures who have fought everyone at home, insulted elders, antagonized women and youths, and created enmity across their wards and LGAs. Such characters lack the moral standing to unite the party or win new members. Appointing a man who is detested at home is tantamount to handing over advantage to the opposition.
3. Reject Aspirants With Bad Financial Records
We must not entrust leadership to individuals who diverted party funds, misappropriated monies meant for ward and LGA executives during elections, or who cannot account for funds entrusted to them. If a person cannot be transparent with party resources, he cannot be trusted with public resources.
4. Choose Aspirants With Capacity and Electoral Value
Appoint people who possess proven capacity, who are loved and accepted by their people, who have followers on ground and not just on social media, and who can convincingly win their polling units, wards and LGAs for APC any day, any time.
5. Reward Loyal and Committed Party Faithfuls
The statement urged the party to appoint men and women who have laboured for APC in good and bad times, who stood with the party when it was not fashionable to do so, and whose loyalty to APC is unquestionable. This is not the time to reward political merchants who jump from party to party.
6. Support Aspirants Who Can Invest In The Party
We need people who can commit their personal resources to organize meetings, mobilize women and youths, and sustain party activities without waiting for Government subvention. People who see party work as sacrifice and service, not as business.
7. Elect People Who Can Market 3R Administration
We need credible ambassadors who can eloquently project the achievements of the Shared Prosperity and 3R Government led by Governor Hope Uzodimma to the grassroots with confidence, sincerity and good character.
8. Choose People With Integrity and Good Character
We should appoint individuals with good track records, people who are morally upright, who respect constituted authority, and who command respect in their communities by virtue of their integrity and lifestyle.
9. Elect Peaceful and Team Players
We need leaders who can carry everybody along, who promote peace, unity and reconciliation in their LGAs and wards, and who are capable of working harmoniously with party stakeholders, traditional rulers and community leaders.
10. Pick Accessible, Humble and Youth-Friendly Leaders
The appeal said the new leadership should be composed of humble and accessible leaders who listen to the cries of the people, who mentor the youths and empower women, and who will keep the party alive at the grassroots.
The group concluded that if APC gets the selection right, the party will become unbeatable in Imo State. Conversely, if wrong persons are appointed - people hated at home, people with financial baggage, and people who have destroyed relationships at the grassroots - it will weaken the party from its foundation.
This is the time to reward loyalty, capacity, good character and grassroots connectivity, the statement added.
Long Live APC, Long Live Imo State, Long Live the 3R Government, it stated.
