Sunday Word: Rest Is Also Medicine - Protect Your Health, Protect Your Family

Happy Sunday, Family!

Today is Sunday. A day God gave us not just to go to church, but to REST.

But many of us have forgotten how to rest.

We wake up on Sunday and still carry Monday's worry. We are in church physically, but our mind is in the market, in the office, in the school fees, in the debt. We come home and still quarrel, still scroll, still hustle.

Listen: Rest is also medicine.

You cannot pour from an empty cup. If you break down, your family breaks down.

1. YOUR HEALTH IS YOUR FAMILY'S WEALTH

When a father falls sick, the whole house shakes. School fees stop. Food becomes problem. When a mother falls sick, the whole house scatters. Nobody eats well. Nobody sleeps well.

That is why your health is not your private property. It belongs to your family too.

This Sunday, ask yourself honestly:
- When last did I do a proper check-up? Blood pressure, sugar, eyes?
- When last did I sleep 6-8 hours without phone?
- When last did I drink water instead of only soft drinks and alcohol?
- When last did I eat a proper meal at home, not just fast food?

You are chasing money, but if your body fails you, who will spend that money?

2. STOP NORMALISING TIREDNESS

Many Nigerian families are tired and they call it normal.

Headache every day - normal.
Back pain - normal.
No appetite - normal.
Always angry - normal.
Cannot sleep - normal.

It is NOT normal. Your body is talking to you. Listen before it shouts.

If you have been feeling dizzy, chest pain, constant headache, high blood pressure, difficulty breathing - please go to hospital this week. Don't wait till it becomes emergency. Prevention is cheaper than cure.

Talk to a healthcare professional if you feel unwell. Don't self-medicate from chemist every time.

3. SUNDAY IS FOR FAMILY, NOT FOR PHONE

Today, do these 3 simple things:

A. Eat Together: Even if it's just rice and stew, sit down together. No phone on the table. Ask your children - How was your week? Ask your husband / wife - Are you truly okay?

B. Forgive One Person: Many families are sick not because of germs, but because of unforgiveness. Husband and wife not talking for 2 weeks. Mother and daughter quarrelling. Brothers fighting over land. Today is Sunday - forgive. Peace is also medicine. A joyful heart is medicine.

C. Rest Your Mind: Take 1 hour today without phone, without news, without gossip. Sit, pray, walk, sleep. Your mind needs rest like your body.

4. PROTECT YOUR CHILDREN'S HEALTH TOO

  • Give them water, not only sugary drinks.
  • Let them sleep early, not watch phone till 1am.
  • Let them play outside, not only screen.
  • Check their eyes, teeth, and growth.
  • Teach them to talk when they are sad. A child who cannot talk will suffer in silence.

A healthy family starts with small daily habits, not big money.

5. A PRAYER FOR YOUR FAMILY THIS SUNDAY

May your health never fail you when you finally make it in life.
May your strength match your success.
May your children grow in good health.
May your home have peace, not just money.
May you live long to enjoy the fruit of your labour.

If you are reading this and you are tired, stressed, sick, or broken inside - you are not alone. Rest today. Pray today. Talk to someone you trust today. And see a doctor this week if you need to.

CONCLUSION:

Monday will come with its wahala. But today is Sunday.

Rest today. Eat well today. Love your family today. Forgive today.

Because the goal is not just to make it in life. The goal is to make it AND be well enough to enjoy it with your family.

Happy Sunday from our family to yours. May God keep you and your family in good health.
